quarter-sawn oak. the king of all woods, and sort of a nightmare to work with. but the end results are, without fail, beautiful. here is the neck for a jumbo gourd banjo im making for lloyd here in boston. i am inlaying 12 flush-frets after the style of the 1860s and '70s.
